What is NLP?

What is NLP
NLP or Neuro Linguistic Programming has been part of my life for so long  I forget that not everyone knows what it is. I  used it personally for many years before training to become a practitioner and trainer so that I could share it with others  The following is from my website.
“NLP or Neuro-Linguistic Programming uses a range of tools and techniques to help you to achieve your goals. It allows you to access the power of your unconscious mind to get the results that you want. It allows you to change, adopt or eliminate behaviors, as you desire, and gives you the ability to choose your mental, emotional, and physical states of well-being. Although NLP may be new to you, it has been in use for over 30 years and is popular among many successful people.”
In NLP, Neuro refers to the  brain, linguistic to language and programming, who we are based on our values and beliefs. It is admittedly a clumsy title but unfortunately we are stuck with it. Thankfully NLP is far more dynamic  than the title.  Using NLP for personal development helps us to  recognize that we are all different. It teaches us an effective and new way of looking at  communication, and an understanding of how others operate using  the language of the mind.
A key theme is focussing on what you want and taking responsibility for your own actions.  (see my other post of Cause and Effect).
When I use NLP with clients we learn what the problem is and then plan a program to solve it. The difference between this and more traditional forms of counseling or ‘therapy’ is that content is not so important. We don’t need to spend months or years focusing on the problem. The desire to make the change and application of NLP tools allows the client to get immediate, effective and long lasting results. For example, a person’s programming might mean they have an unconscious belief that they can’t do something e.g. lose weight or get a better job. By taking a detailed personal history and identifying values and beliefs, we are able to release negative emotions of anger, sadness, fear and guilt, let go of limiting beliefs that are holding the client back and then apply appropriate techniques to work towards their goal.
The  six life issues are that are dealt with in a Breakthrough Session are:
Health & Fitness
Personal Growth
A full Breakthrough typically takes between 8 and 14 hours broken up into sessions to suit the client, this could be days or weeks.
Some issues may take only a few hours and do not require a full breakthrough session, although once you get started you are probably going to want to do more  You would be amazed how many people out there are using NLP, It is incredible fun to use and can be life changing.
