Are You Really A Perfectionist Or Just Procrastinating?

Are You A Perfectionist?

Are you waiting for the absolute optimum time to start your project? tidy your closet? change your job? change your life? It’s not the right time yet but you’ll know when it is, right? That’s bull and you know it, There’s never going to be a right time, it will never come and deep down you know it.  So are you really a perfectionist, or is this simply resistance?

Or Are You Just Procrastinating?

We’re always going to find something else to do, always going to put things off. Perfectionism is the road to procrastination. You know how I know? Because this week I was preparing  to make videos  which I did eventually. But it took me a long time to  get going. I needed to prepare the  room, to put the lights up, to to put my makeup on. I found anything and everything to do before I managed to make even one video. “I’ll just have one more cup of tea,  I’ll just go to check the mailbox.” Sound familiar?
I was procrastinating and it wasn’t because I didn’t want to do it. It wasn’t quite right and required some tedious and frustrating tasks to get the the point where I was ready to begin.
I make videos regularly and do my best to put  out a good product, but I know it’s not perfect. I’m getting to the point where I’m okay with that.
So what about you are? you still struggling with that? Are you still waiting for the right time to do that thing that you have been putting off? Maybe next year, maybe in a few more weeks, maybe when you’ve lost weight got a new gadget, when life is you know…perfect.
Perfection will hold you back from ever doing it. You might never do it, because you are just waiting for that elusive thing that will never come. If the  first  product that you put out is really good then you waited too long according to most leadership experts. Your first stuff is not meant  to be your best work. It’s a trial, a test.  You can sit in your bedroom and test it, or you can actually get out there and take a risk and let someone see your work. Yes you may get criticism. I’m just getting used to the fact that if I put myself out there people can and do say nasty things.

Start Today

But you know what? I’m just gonna to do it anyway. This is the year of living fearlessly and that means taking risks it means putting perfection to one side. It doesn’t mean I’m not going to work hard and really try my best to do my best. But I’m not going  to wait for perfection. Because perfection like tomorrow, never comes.
Start today.
